Study Abroad

Study abroad at The American University of Paris

Whether you’re already working toward your degree at another institution or looking for a unique program to launch your studies, spending a semester or a year at The American University of Paris is an exceptional way to enhance your experience.

How to apply for study abroad

AUP accepts applications year round for both fall and spring admission. We have a simple and straightforward study abroad application process.

Advice for smooth credit transfer

  • Visit the study abroad office at your home institution. They will be able to give you advice about what classes you can and should take.
  • List the classes that interest you and take the list, along with the description of the classes (available in our course catalog), to your academic advisor and/or study abroad office.
  • For syllabi requests from your home institution, contact the Admissions Office with the list of classes exactly as they are titled in the course catalog. Example: INTRO TO ART THROUGH PARIS MUSEUMS (AH1003).
  • If you are visiting AUP in the fall or spring semesters, come with a list of eight pre-approved classes – in order of preference – so that you are sure to get into enough classes to keep full-time status.

Things to Keep in Mind when Looking for Classes

Here are a few helpful suggestions to keep in mind while looking for classes in our course catalog

  • To see classes listed by semester, click “By Term” in the blue bar under the header image.
  • The course catalog is updated in mid-March for fall semester classes and mid-October for spring semester classes.
  • Classes entitled “Topics” change each semester, so it is often difficult to get syllabi in advance for approval.
  • No 5000 level courses – these are graduate level courses.
  • No courses with FB in the course number (for example CM2004FB7) – these are classes meant for incoming degree-seeking first-year students.
