Professor Balestrieri earned her DPhil in Arithmetic Geometry in 2017 from the University of Oxford, where she also gained experience in teaching by tutoring several undergraduate and graduate courses both at a departmental level and as a Stipendiary Lecturer in Pure Mathematics at Pembroke College. From 2017-2019, she was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in Bonn. In 2019, she was awarded a two-year Marie Curie Individual Fellowship to carry out her research program at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria, near Vienna. She joined AUP in Fall 2020. Her research is in the field of arithmetic geometry. In particular, she is interested in the study of the qualitative and statistical arithmetic behaviour of rational points and zero-cycles on algebraic varieties over number fields. She is also interested in philosophy; in 2020, she obtained a Laurea Magistrale in Scienze Filosofiche from Ca' Foscari University of Venice.
