Dear AUP Student,
You were admitted to AUP because of your strong application, your academic record, and something we discovered in your application that suggested you were eager to cross borders, learn languages, and study in what is one of the most culturally diverse universities on the planet. You have shown us that something extra, that je ne sais quoi, that we think makes AUP the right university for you – and you the right student for us.
We call our ideal AUP student a global explorer and you are one of them. The mixture of faiths, creeds, nationalities, languages and ethnicities that characterizes our students and faculty makes our teaching pedagogically distinctive – students learn as much from each other as from the mentors who guide their learning. Our diverse population, with over 100 different countries represented, influences everything on our campus. It has provided the raison d’être for AUP’s highly focused, comparative, cross-cultural curriculum.
An AUP education will help teach you to transfer your skills from one domain to another as you move forward in your career. It will also encourage you to seek creative solutions to the very real and pressing issues of our day. You’ll find that academic rigor and high expectations are built into our courses, of which most are small, discussion-based, and built on the exchanges and debates engaged in by students and faculty. When you finally cross the stage at graduation, you’ll be a changed person – a cultural translator, moving deftly across national borders, languages, and cities and with the ease of someone who feels at home in our ever-globalizing world.
Every morning, as I walk to AUP, I cross the Alma Bridge, down just one bridge from the Eiffel Tower. In whatever weather, but especially that of early spring, the stretch of the Seine, invigorates and inspires me as it has for my twenty-eight years in Paris. The sheer beauty of this city in which we work and live – a center of art, culture, history, business, communication, and much more – never ceases to amaze me. A similar opportunity and adventure awaits you as a student of this unique university and a resident of this exceptional city.
With best wishes,
Celeste M. Schenck
