DECEMBER TRANSIT STRIKE UPDATE (2)

THIS POST IS A REPUBLISHED VERSION OF AN EMAIL COMMUNICATION SENT BY AUP Vice President for Security, Operations and Student Services Marc Montheard TO STUDENTS, PARENTS AND FAMILY MEMBERS ON December 4, 2019, ABOUT THE EXPECTED TRANSIT STRIKE IN PARIS. IT IS PART OF OUR SAFETY & SECURITY BLOG THAT ROUNDS UP ALL THE LATEST NEWS AND UPDATES FOR OUR COMMUNITY.

After surveying the students and in an effort to provide assistance to the AUP community to get to Paris airports during the strike, AUP will put in place a service of free buses departing from campus (in front of the Combes building – 6 rue du Colonel Combes) starting on Thursday December 5th and until the strike ends or until the university closes on December 20th, whichever comes first.

For obvious logistical reasons we are unable to come pick up students at their doors so we recommend that you book a taxi or an Uber the day before(see resources below) to come from home to campus (allow ample time, particularly if you take the 8:30 bus - not so much if you take the 4:30am bus as there won’t be much traffic).

Some of you might decide that it is easier to book a taxi/Uber all the way to the airport(see resources below)  but if you chose to use the “AUP bus” you MUST fill out this new webform (even if you have already responded to the first webform) at

Please make sure that the info you are giving us regarding the airport, the flight number and the departure time are correct

In order to be able to guarantee availability, it is imperative that you book your seat on the bus ASAP and no later than:

Departure date:                                              Deadline to reserve:

Dec. 5 or 6                                                       Dec. 4 (TODAY) at 4pm

Dec.7, 8, 9 10                                                  Dec. 5 at noon

Dec.11, 12, 13, 14, 15                                     Dec. 8 at noon

Dec. 16, 17, 18, 19, 20                                    Dec. 10 at noon

Please note that these deadlines will be implemented strictly!

Because of difficulties related to the traffic that can be expected in the Paris area due to the public transportation strikes, there will be set departure times at 4:30am and 8:30am.

Anyone with a flight leaving Paris before 2pm should reserve the 4:30am bus to ensure they do not miss their flight. If your flight takes off after 2pm you should book the 8:30 bus.

Note that there are still many ways to get to the airport. Taxi, shuttle, and car services such as Uber, will remain unchanged during the strike. Traffic disruptions are likely, though, so allow for abundant travel time. Parisian taxis will maintain normal pricing. Uber and similar services will likely see surges in pricing due to demand.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
