Arab Film Series

Wednesday, September 23, 2015 - 18:30 to 21:30

The Department of English and Comparative Literature presents:

Arab Film Series

While Arab film is gaining increasing international recognition, it is still largely unknown to western audiences. Join us this semester for AUP’s first Arab Film Series, a specially curated selection of recent Arab films mixed with classics and rarely-seen favourites presented by the Department of English and Comparative Literature. The films, the work of new and established directors, include features, documentaries, biopics, and comedies. All are shown with English subtitles.

The first film in the series, 'The Square' (2013), is a dramatic documentary on the 2011 Egyptian Revolution, one of the Arab Spring uprisings that overthrew dictators across the Arab world. Directed by Jehane Noujaim and starring Khalid Abdalla, it was nominated for the Best Documentary Feature at the 86th Academy Awards.

Films in the Series: 'The Square' (23 September), 'Wajda' (8 October), 'Nasser 56' (15 October), 'Days of Sadat' (28 October), 'The Yacoubian Building' (4 November), 'Cairo 678' (18 November), 'The Mummy / Night of Counting the Years' (3 December). Films are shown in C-101 at 18h30.
