This trip to Florence, one of the most famous artistic capitals of the world, is an integral part of the Art, Culture & Gender in the Italian Renaissance class. The visits to numerous sites, systematically inflected by issues of gender, include churches (the Santissima Annunziata along wih the Ospedale degli Innocenti, the Duomo, Santa Maria Novella, Santa Croce, Santa Felicità, Santa Maria del Carmine, Santo Spirito, San Lorenzo and the Medici Chapels), museums (the Bargello, the Accademia, highlighted by Michelangelo’s David, the Uffizi), and the town hall and major palaces (the Palazzo della Signoria, the Medici Palace, the Pitti Palace collections).
