The Memorial de Caen presents the history of the twentieth century from the origins of the Second World War II up to the end of the Cold War, from the Treaty of Versailles to the fall of the Berlin Wall. The general theme of the
museum goes beyond military history and is dedicated to reconciliation and peace. The Memorial is part of the
International Network of Museums for Peace. There is, for example, a section devoted to cultures of peace and the Nobel Peace Prize. The study trip ends with a visit to the American Cemetery on the bluff above Omaha Beach, the site of the most difficult combat on the beaches of D-Day.
