In this exploratory study, Christy Pichichero looks to the history of free people of color in France at the end of the Old Regime She traces the the way racial prejudice intersected with other markers of identity to shape the lives of imperial subjects who were both marginalized outsiders and a privileged elite. Professor Pichichero is Associate Professor of History at George Mason University She is the author of The Military Enlightenment: War and Culture from Louis XIV to Napoleon (Cornell, 2017).

Professor Pichichero will first hold her talk in C-104 and then we will have a reception in Q-801.
