Found & Lost: a reading and talk by Alison Leslie Gold

By invitation of the Center for Writers & Translators, Alison Leslie Gold, author of no.12 in the Cahiers Series, will read from and discuss her latest work of creative non-fiction, Found and Lost: Mittens, Miep, and Shovelfuls of Dirt. Best known for Anne Frank Remembered, her memoir of the woman who protected the Frank family during World War II, Alison Gold for the first time has turned her gaze upon herself. Starting with supervision of her primary school’s ‘Lost and Found’ depot, she charts her need to save objects, stories, and people – including herself – that she sensed to be on a road to perdition. Following the deaths of those closest to her, including Anne Frank’s protector Miep Gies, she begins to write her way out of grief. In her compelling memoir, told through letters, she relates her descent into addiction, and the fateful meeting that ultimately led to her recovery.
