The Global Professional Skills Program (GPS) offers a series of professional skills workshops and activities each with a different goal. Completion of each of these workshops and activities is required for students who wish to earn the GPS certificate.
Each of the workshops is only one 80-minute session. Students may register for a workshop via AUP Engage at any time.
All workshops take place at the GPS Lab in the ACE Center (3rd floor of the Learning Commons). Sign up for a workshop via AUP Engage.
This workshop is the starting point for the GPS Program and must be completed before you can continue and complete the full Program. It helps students strategically plan their university time and make connections between their values and their objectives during their university experience. Students will leave this workshop focused on making the most out of their time at AUP.
In this workshop, students will gain tools for defining, understanding, and building cultural intelligence in the workplace and beyond, as well as how to identify your own professional values and working styles and those of organizations.
We offer you five easy steps to strengthen and improve your CV or resume both in content and design.
This interactive workshop will break down the different parts of the cover letter and equip you with skills and strategies to create and tailor your own cover letters that complement your CV and effectively communicate your intentions and qualifications to the target audience.
This is not a workshop, but is a required component of the GPS Path. Students must complete two experiences from this category, gaining real-world applications of professional skills through employment, internships, student leadership, clubs, and more. Please see your GPS Path for details on what experiences qualify to fulfill the requirements.
The DYN workshop helps students examine how to use their experiences at university to build a convincing narrative that prepares them for their post-graduation plans. We walk through a series of exercises that help students reflect on everything they’ve done at AUP, both in the classroom and outside of it. Students will leave the workshop with the tools they need to confidently share their story with prospective employers, graduate school admissions teams, investors, etc., as they work towards their post-graduation goals.
Students must have completed Design Your Narrative (DYN) to participate in and complete this, the final workshop of the Program. Students will learn how to present their personal narrative coherently and effectively to an audience, focusing on honing public speaking and creating supporting visual aids.
Meeting more people and starting conversation was my biggest struggle. Now I am more comfortable in doing so.
