The Bachelor's/Master's Program

The Bachelor's/Master's Program

The Bachelor's/Master's Program at The American University of Paris is a way for motivated, currently-enrolled undergraduate students at AUP to begin working towards a combined Bachelor’s and Master’s degree during their senior year. Through careful course selection, students taking this option can earn double credit by taking two Master’s level courses as part of an undergraduate degree, saving money on their postgraduate studies while, in some cases, graduating a semester early, and securing an early and expedited acceptance.

A combined Bachelor’s and Master’s degree offers both the academic grounding of AUP’s global liberal arts undergraduate curriculum and the specialization of postgraduate study. By accelerating your Master’s program, you’ll be taking graduate-level courses with postgraduate students as part of your Bachelor’s degree requirements. It’s an option that requires dedication and hard work, but will prepare you well to enter the workforce with a graduate degree ahead of your peers.

A Combined Degree in Three Bullet Points

  • Start Your Master’s Early: Take one Master’s level course (4 credits) in each semester of your senior year of undergraduate studies.
  • Earn Double Credit: 8 credits will count toward both your Bachelor’s and Master’s requirements.
  • Save Money: Graduate having taken fewer total courses across two degrees, reducing your tuition costs and general expenses.

How It Works

Our Bachelor's/Master's Program lets you take one graduate-level course in each semester of your senior year of undergraduate studies. You will be able to assign 8 credits from these courses to both your Bachelor’s and Master’s degree requirements.

You can combine ANY undergraduate major with ANY of AUP’s Master’s programs. Depending on how closely your chosen disciplines align, graduate courses taken during your Bachelor’s will either contribute to the major’s core requirements or be applied toward open elective credit. If the latter case, it is important to plan carefully to ensure you have elective credits left in your senior year to apply for the Bachelor's/Master's Program.

You must submit an Expression of Interest Form before beginning the second semester of your Junior year, including a completed Degree Worksheet that maps out all your remaining courses and includes two graduate courses, one each semester, in your senior year.

Is This Option Right for You?

  • Do you want to complement your undergraduate academic portfolio with an additional specialization to increase your competitive edge in the job market?
  • Are you a focused and ambitious student with clear employment goals, looking for the most efficient path to a postgraduate degree?
  • Are you looking to save money on tuition by doubling-up on your undergraduate and graduate credit requirements?

THE APPLICATION PROCESS

  • You can start discussing a combined Bachelor's/Master’s degree with your academic advisor from the moment you arrive at AUP – but you won’t apply for the option until the first semester of your junior year. You’ll need to show you have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and have earned at least 64 credits but no more than 80 credits.
  • To begin the application process, you must meet with your academic advisor to complete your degree worksheet and Junior Degree Check (JDC), clearly outlining your plan to complete the requirements of your Bachelor’s degree while layering in 8credits worth of Master's course work during your senior year – one 4 credit course per semester.
  • Next, you must complete the Expression of Interest Form which will be reviewed by the Program Director in the Master’s program to which you will apply. You will then meet with the Program Director to discuss the program and your candidacy.
  • Once you’ve met with the Program Director, you will be provided with a link to the Program Application.
  • Your application will be reviewed by AUP's Office of Admissions and by the Program Director of your Master’s program of choice. If your application is successful, you will be notified of your provisional acceptance into the program, conditional upon the successful completion of your Master's coursework and Bachelor's degree.
  • If provisionally accepted into the Bachelor’s/Master’s Program, you will be enrolled into your first Master's course during your senior year by the Office of the Registrar. The Office of the Registrar will make every effort to enroll you into your first-choice course, depending on space availability and will work with you directly to ensure the proper undergraduate level course registrations are retained.
  • Upon your successful completion of your first Master's course, the Office of Admissions will issue you a letter of confirmation of formal acceptance into the program. The Office of the Registrar will then enroll you in the second Master’s level course. You must still satisfactorily complete the second graduate-level course for official acceptance into the program.
  • Upon successful completion of your Bachelor's degree, you will be officially matriculated into the Master's program, joining the graduate cohort the following fall semester.
