On Wednesday, June 8, 2022, Pascal Morand, Executive President of the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode (FHCM), gave an in-person lecture to AUP fashion studies students titled “Promoting Paris Fashion and Coordinating Paris Fashion Week®: the Key Role of the FHCM.” The event took place in the Judith Hermanson Ogilvie Grand Salon in the Combes Student Life Center and was organized by Professors Renate Stauss and Sophie Kurkdjian of the Department of Communication, Media and Culture.
Morand, an economist – and former rock band member – discussed his experience of promoting Paris fashion at the FHCM through the lens of multiple fashion systems. He drew on his economics background to address various topics, such as waste production in the fashion industry and the industry’s current work climate, from a business and marketing perspective. He also discussed how a new, younger generation is working behind the scenes, replacing their older, more conservative predecessors, and shined a light on what the fashion industry may look like in the next decade.
After the talk, students were able to ask questions and discuss a range of industry concepts with Morand. The variety of career paths leading into the industry was of particular interest to many attendees.
