AR1015CCI Painting I
AR1020CCi Materials and Techniques
AR2016 Painting II
This study trip is conceived to show how Spain’s alliances and conquests imported ideas and
techniques from around the world to the power center of one of history’s largest empires, giving rise
to artistic schools of tremendous emotional and religious intensity.
The great collections amassed by the kings and emperors who ruled Spain and its colonies will be
visited, along with the modern and contemporary collections that exhibit the artistic backlash to
Franco’s dictatorship. A day trip to Toledo to explore the “city of three cultures” plus a visit to the El
Greco Museum - the master of intensity and religion fervor - will complete this excursion.
This study trip will accommodate students who have been to Madrid and Toledo several times and
those for whom it is their first visit.
