Cahiers Series: Bone into Stone with Author Jhumpa Lahiri

University Room: Omid & Gisel Kordestani Rooftop Conference Center (Q-801)
6 rue du Colonel Combes, 75007 Paris
Tuesday, April 1, 2025 - 18:30

Join us for a celebration of the work of Jhumpa Lahiri, author of no.41 in AUP’s Cahiers Series, Bone into Stone.

For three years the renowned author and translator Jhumpa Lahiri has been working on translating Ovid’s Metamorphoses into English. From among the elements of transformation that have spoken to her directly and intimately she has chosen here to focus on stones. The connotations of stone pose questions of origin and destiny, immobility and unsettledness, living and dying.

Jhumpa Lahiri received the Pulitzer Prize in 2000 for Interpreter of Maladies, her debut story collection. She is the author of The NamesakeUnaccustomed EarthThe LowlandTranslating Myself and Others, and In Altre Parole (In Other Words). She received the National Humanities Medal in 2014, and was named Commendatore of the Italian Republic in 2019.
