The Cinémathèque française is the creation of a passionate man, Henri Langlois, without whom the most admirable pieces of the World cinema would no longer exist. The Cinémathèque is also an outstanding collection of unique objects donated to Langlois by Chaplin, Hitchcock, Lang and numerous Hollywood stars. The Cinémathèque is of course the heart of the New Wave with its politique des auteurs, the ultimate place for the true movie fans. Constructed by Frank Gehry, the new Cinémathèque’s building is still haunted by the spirit of Henri Langlois. Each exhibition held within constitutes a tribute to the greatest filmmakers worldwide (Méliès, Kubrick, Burton, Antonioni, Almodovar, Truffaut, Scorsese and soon Gus Von Sant). The Cinemathèque is an exceptional place to explore their universe and discover their entire filmography.
On this event excerpts of the Phantom of Henri Langlois (film made by Jacqyes Richard) will be screened and discussed by Régis Robert, director of the Archives of the Cinémathèque nationale and by Professor Nathalie Debroise. Series of excerpts will be followed by a debate with the audience.
You are also all invited to join the buffet after the debate. This event is sponsored by the French Department of the American University of Paris. Come numerous!
