Are you an aspiring writer who has always dreamed of publishing a collection of poetry? Or a movie buff who’s always wanted to shoot your own film? Or maybe, you’d just like the opportunity to learn how to paint while getting your degree in Economics. Come study in the city that has inspired artists, writers and filmmakers for generations and learn how to tell your own stories through the medium of your choice.

Join us for a week of exploration around fine arts and creative writing at AUP. Meet some of our professors and students to find out what they are inspired by, what they are working on, and how you can add the arts to your educational experience as an AUP student this fall.

  • 6PM Paris Time: Peacock Play Executive Panel
    • Hosts: AUP Students Sophie Lemmerman, Ruby Burley, recent alumna Thais Moulie, and Professor Jurgen Hecker
    • Learn how you can get involved with AUP Student Media (ASM). This session will look specifically at Peacock Play, the student-run online video platform for AUP.

  • 7PM Paris Time: "Poetry on the Street" Comparative Literature Mini-Class
    • Host: Professor Geoff Gilbert
    • How does poetry – the most portable artistic medium – relate to the city and the street? In this mini-class, we’ll start with an historical example which places the work of Charles Baudelaire in relation to the streets of nineteenth-century Paris. Then we’ll ask why so many poets have been involved in street protest around the world, and talk about ways in which those kinds of topics are explored – in the classroom and in the city – by students at AUP.

    • FILM: Current student Stefan Levchenko’s documentary “Anna Tholia and Her Chosen Family”

  • 7PM Paris Time: "Pop Art and Pop Culture: Art and Politics in the Society of the Spectacle in the 1960s" Mini-Class
    • Host: Professor Hervé Vanel
    • Considering artworks by Andy Warhol, Faith Ringgold, Jasper Johns and Romare Bearden (notably) this mini-class will discuss how, in the 1960s, a few artists have addressed, from different perspectives, the issue of the relationship between art and politics. It will conclude by observing the impact of their responses on a more recent artwork.

    • Host: Professor Jonathan Shimony
    • This session will explore the new art center and all the opportunities that the faculty, space, and location will offer to the incoming students. The Fine Art program's core classes, topic classes and philosophy will also be discussed.

Friday, March 26

 

Reminder: for the week of March 22 to 26, the US and France will be an hour closer than usual, 5 hours ahead of US Eastern Time. Daylight Savings Time happens in France on Sunday, March 28, and France will return to 6 hours ahead of US Eastern Time.

Video Spotlight

AUP has been participating in the Louvre's "Les Jeunes Ont La Parole" program since it was formally created, giving our students a unique expanded classroom experience and an opportunity of a lifetime. As part of the program, student take on the role of museum guide, art historian, and art curator as they present works of art to the public at the world famous Louvre Museum.
