Katy Lee is a Paris-based social and political journalist and co-host of The Europeans, an award-winning podcast about European politics and culture. She has taught AUP's audio journalism undergraduate practicum since 2022, bringing a wealth of practical experience to this hands-on course based on a career in print and audio journalism spanning 15 years and three continents.
After graduating from the University of Cambridge in Social and Political Sciences and completing a Master's with Distinction in Broadcast Journalism at City University London, Katy went on to work for the French news agency Agence France-Presse (AFP), with postings in London, Paris and Hong Kong. Her reporting has covered everything from the impact of the historic wave of refugee arrivals on the Greek islands in 2015 to Hong Kong's 'Umbrella Revolution'; she has also worked as a tech reporter and served a brief stint in Washington, DC, reporting for titles including The Guardian, Politico, Vox and Foreign Policy.
Her multi-award-winning podcast The Europeans, launched in 2017, is a rare example of an independent current affairs podcast that has survived without the backing of a large media organization, leaving Katy well-placed to advise students on how to launch small-scale media projects that go the distance.
